Academic Action and Transfer Form

Data was presented from 2 undergraduate surveys. Global satisfaction rated quite high, but some experiences are not rated as highly. 11/03/2007

Academic Related Technology Committee (ARTC)
Recommendation to disband the Academic Related Technology Committee (ARTC). AAC will vote on the motion to disband ARTC in May. 04/10/2007

Achievement Awards - Undergrad
Fifteen $600 undergrad achievement awards are available for Spring, 1983. Awards are available to sophomores and juniors in any academic concentration. Projects should be submitted in written format and reviewed byt the committee. 02/01/1983

Action of "Admitted on Probation" Elimination
Recommendation to eliminate the action of "Admitted of Probation" as now applied to new Freshmen Students. Motion passed to abolish this practice. The motion implies that new freshmen be not officially identified in any way as admitted on probation. 02/21/1962

There are adverse effects of ethe extreme variation of add/drop deadlines among schools and colleges. University credibility is lost as a result of variation. Urge University to regulate add/drop policies of the campus units so variation is avoided. 02/01/1983

Advising - Student Advising Profile
The profile has been used by Admissions to indicate courses taken in H.S., test scores, etc., and by the staff of the SOAR program in advising students for fall courses. The new one is multi-purpose and has many advantages. There are concerns as well. 10/02/1979

Erland Olfe from UW-Milwaukee was invited to explain their advising for new and continuing students. There was a discussion of having professional counselors versus teaching faculty advise students. 12/04/1973

Advising Students - Educational Options
"And Now What" was distributed at the October meeting. Sophoore year is when students should look at alternative choices and/or a second field. There should be a place where students receive counseling in alternatives at a central place. 11/04/1980

Audits are run to determine where the posting advisors in ISIS. 09/03/2002

Schools and colleges are responsible for inputting advisors and keeping the records accurate. The registrar’s office has the custodial and audit responsibility. 04/02/2002

Sharon Nellis reports that the Office of Quality Improvement has agreed to facilitate the process to make corrections in the advisor data in ISIS. An AAC representative or designee from each school or college plus the Graduate School be involved. 12/04/2001

Allied Health Professions, School of
Occupational Therapy (OT) affiliation with School of Education to be terminated officially as of October 11, 1974, and transferred to the School of Allied Health Professions (AHP) 10/01/1974

Initial discussions have occurred regarding autmated grade changes. The problem that presents itself is that making grade changes easy may not be an unmitigated good. 12/05/2006

Buckley Legislation; Student Records
Discussion of the proposed format of policy on the "where and what of student records". Need to develop a policy, inform students of policy, implement policy, and inform students of their right to redress the policy. 03/01/1977

Budget
Options for cutting bulletin printing costs. Three different options were provided and samples of each method were reviewed. The impact of budget cuts in student services was discussed. It was the consensus that whatever is done has impact on others. 05/06/1986

There will be an impact of the cuts in service functions. Those cuts will be seriously looked into. In IES, the ad hoc interdisciplinary arrangements will be affected. Budget cuts will also affect admissions. Additional discussion postponed. 03/04/1986

Professor Miles' presented a plan regarding the introductory level courses in the mathematics department in light of the 2-4-6 percent budget cut. These caps will probably have a bad impact on students and programs. 03/04/1986

Bulk Mailing
The bulk mailing sub-committee reported after review of the site and its staffing. There is concerned of the Center's ability to respond to student queries for bulletins and related material. 11/04/1980

A part-time student has been managing the Center. The sub-committee is not ready to make a full report with recommendations, they would like to have a full-time employee managing the Center. 12/02/1980

A Bulletin distribution subcommittee was appointed. The first task of the committee is to identify the problems which need correction in the current distribution system. 11/11/1986

Each school/college has control of the distribution of bulletins and there are problems with some bulletins not being available to other on-campus units. There isn't a good handle on whether the distribution was poor or if enough were printed. 05/05/1981

Mentor program
Support voiced for Faculty Mentor program aimed at assisting minority students' adjustment to the University 05/01/1979

Mentor Program - Faculty
Faculty should be surveyed for their interest in the Faculty Mentor Program. If enough interest, recommendations could be implemented. If not, a pilot program could be initiated for fall 1979. An evaluation component should be added to recommendations. 03/06/1979

There is more interest of the faculty to be involved in the Faculty Mentoring Program than interested students. It was a pilot program. Early contact with the student is important. Accurate and timely contact information is difficult to obtain. 10/02/1979

Mid-Term Early Warning System, Six weeks grades
University of MN provided background information about Early Warning System. There seems to be a difference of opinion of what to do, additional discussion required. 06/03/2003

Military Call up

Military Science and Physical Education for Students Transferring from One U.W. Campus to Another
If a student transfers from the UW-M with a deficiency in physical education or military science at UW-M that definicency must be satisfied if the student transfers to Madison and vice cersa. 11/16/1960

Military Science Deficiency Notification
Discussion of how students with deficiencies in military science should be notified that they must make up these deficiencies in their next semester of residence without degree credit. Moved to have the Registrar notify student in the summer. 06/15/1960

Military Science Orientations and Physical Education Requirement for Part-Time Students
Moved that male students on a per credit fee basis with a freshman classification be permantently exempt from R.O.T.C. orientation. 02/15/1961

Military Service Policy
Edits to the Military Service Policy were discussed. 11/06/2001

Item #4, concerning the 12 week refernce, the wording was changed. Lockwood wants the faculty to have greater authority to decide. A copy of the military orders sent to the student will be required. 01/06/2001

Provost Spear gave an overview of the Military Service Policy. AAC reviewed and supported the policy. 12/04/2001

Military Service Policy, Study Abroad Military Service
If a student is called up on short notice and goes to the Registrar's office, an administrative withdrawal will be processed. They will notify the school/college after the fact. This might impact students in Study Abroad programs. 02/04/2003

Minimum Credit Controls
There is a docusment in the draft stage. There is general support for this concenpt and committee members should comment to Rosemary by Oct. 15, 1993 regarding their interest in using this. 09/21/1993

Minority Students - Recruitment and Retention
AP 7.2 document mandates the UW System campuses to enroll, retain, and graduate minority students in direct proportion to their status in the population at large. The New Student Services Office is staffed to help address this issue. 10/03/1978

Minors, Academic
Chair will write to University Academic Planning Council (UAPC) to request a review of the status of academic minors 04/05/1994

Modular Courses
Students are expected to commit to courses at beginning of term -- add/drop deadlines identical to those for semester long courses; final grades to be submitted at end of semester 02/10/1970

Deadlines associated with modular courses will be proportional to full-term courses; grades earned will be reported at end of full-term -- approved 10/06/1981

There was discussion on the L&S policies on modular courses. Campus units need to make an effort to follow uniform administration procedures for modular courses. There are many problems with modular courses. Need policies developed. 03/01/1983

There are difficulties in identifying modular courses. Using session codes increases the size of the timetable. There is a need to look at other options. Dean's actions are the way to drop a modular course so the transcript reflects what was done. 05/05/1981

Modular Courses Subcommittee Report
There was a February 27th draft document that was reviewed. Defined modular course to mean courses of less than a semester in length. 04/02/1984

My UW
500 Biology majors tested the My UW. The purpose is to draw together existing resources. 09/05/2000

National Clearinghouse
There has been a national clearinghouse for employers to ask about degrees. The Registrar's Office will verify the dgrees but will refer them to the clearinghouse in the future. 12/03/2002

NCAA eligibility Requirements
Discussion about the NCAA eligibility requirements and their impact on student progress and choice of academic programs. Update on new guidelines which requires studnets to make steady progress toward completing a degree. 10/02/2007

New Course Numbers
Registrar's Office is hopeful of having new course numbers available by September 21, 1962. The list will be maintained by the RO. 05/16/1962
